Providing immediate water access TODAY
Rainwater Catchment Systems – A RRD rainwater collection system consists of a 10,000-liter polyethylene tank that’s placed on a cement base and connected to a building’s metal roof through a gutter system. As rainwater is harvested, people can collect it from the nearby tap stand we install, then purify it using the four hollow fiber membrane water filters we include with each of our rainwater collection systems.
Impact: Clean water for 100-500 people
Lifespan: 20+ years
Cost: $3,800 USD

“The installation of UWP systems has had a profound impact on our school’s ability to educate students and support staff. The introduction of the rainwater tank has revolutionized access to clean water, fostering a healthier environment that supports learning and teaching.”
– Head Teacher, Ngadala Peace, Mayirikiti LC1, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District
Borehole Well Rehabilitations – A borehole well is a simple hand pump well that typically ranges from 100 ft. to 250 ft. deep. Even though this pumping system is the most common method of water delivery across Africa, the wells include so many moving parts and endure so much wear and tear that many fall into disrepair after only a few years of regular use. By bringing in our crew to disassemble the well, upgrade its hardware, repair what’s broken, and train community members to maintain it, we’re able to bring these wells back to life and prevent similar problems from occurring in the future.
Impact: Clean water for 300-500 people
Lifespan: 10+ years
Cost: $2,000 US

“Our school children no longer miss classes because of fetching water from very distant water sources.”
– Chairman, Patrick Otto Aboja, Tori-East LC1, Lira Palwo, Agago District
Borehole Well Drillings – In communities where dependable water sources are scarce, drilling a new borehole well is often the best way to provide safe and reliable drinking water. By tapping into groundwater that is trapped in aquifers often hundreds of feet below the earth’s surface, drilling a new borehole well is a higher risk, high-reward project that can provide years of abundant water to entire communities.
Impact: Clean water for 300-500 people
Lifespan: 10+ years
Cost: $8,000-$12,000 USD

“The borehole is really accessible and the water is so safe to use for household work and for drinking.”
– Treasurer, Ssubi Goret, Lubiri LC1, Mpatta, Mukono District
Solar Mechanized Systems – A solar-mechanized system uses the power of the sun to pump water from the aquifer into a large storage tank. The water is then distributed via underground pipes to a tap stand or community households. The size of the system varies depending on the yield of the aquifer and needs of the community.
Impact: Clean water for 500+ people
Lifespan: 10+ years
Cost: Variable (minimum $15,000)

“Thank you for bringing us clean water in our community. We have been suffering for water, but now no longer.”
– Community member Nangendo Aisha), Kkungu LC1, Katikamu, Luwero District
Point-of-Use Filtration Systems – Made using the same hollow fiber membrane technology found in dialysis machines, the water filters we distribute to schools, communities, and clinics can purify water from any source. These small and portable filters are powerful tools for making water safe to drink, with a lifespan of up to 10 years and a capacity to filter as many as 1,000,000 gallons of water in that time.
Impact: 1,000,000 gallons of clean water
Lifespan: up to 10 years
Cost: $75 USD
Hygiene and Sanitation – Many waterborne illnesses are a result of poor hygiene and sanitation, so we promote water safety by equipping Ugandan communities with hand washing stations. We deploy portable stands that consist of a 30L refillable plastic barrel with a tap on a metal stand.
Impact: Hand washing for 50-250 people (portable stand) or 100-500 people (permanent system)
Lifespan: 20+ years
Cost: $50 USD (portable stand)
Developing sustainable enterprises that keep clean water flowing TOMORROW
AquaTrust is a borehole maintenance service that works for you. For a small, standard fee we will do everything in our power to prevent your boreholes from breaking down. If it does, we will fix the problem at no additional cost to you.
- Initial Upgrade: After enrolling, your community will receive a full set of new, high-quality borehole parts installed by our certified borehole technicians.
- Preventative Maintenance: To prevent breakdowns, you will receive quarterly maintenance and comprehensive pump testing by AquaTrust staff.
- 24-hour Emergency Response: If your borehole breaks down, report the problem via phone or SMS and AquaTrust will respond within 24 hours.
- Overhauls: Whenever pump performance declines, AquaTrust’s certified technicians will replace parts that wear down and restore the pump to optimal performance.
- BONUS: Remote Pump Monitoring: Select AquaTrust water points are remotely monitored using high-tech remote sensors that allow us to identify and respond to developing problems before they occur.
AquaTrust is available for hand pumps and solar powered schemes installed by RRD. Pay-per-jerrycan and monthly subscription options are available.
Advocating for national systems that ensure safe water flows FOREVER
RUMIS (Rural and Urban Management Information System) is digital solution for nationwide data collection and management developed in partnership with Red Rhino Development, the Ugandan Water Project, mWater, and the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment.
RUMIS allows government workers to leave pen and paper behind and instead gather survey data in the field using an app regardless of internet connectivity. The RUMIS software platform allows users back in the office to filter, map, and visualize data so stakeholders can make informed decisions.
Red Rhino Development is the on-the-ground implementer for RUMIS activities working in partnership with the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment. Our team provides training for government staff, technical support during roll-out, and help desk services for ongoing system utilization.
Cost to implement RUMIS in 1 district: $25,000 USD
“The accuracy of information provided by the mWater application has alleviated the stress associated with obtaining details about water sources and has improved the overall effectiveness of the water department.”
Mohammed Kaweesi
Assistant District Water Officer
Luwero District
“Previously, discrepancies between available data and ground realities were a persistent challenge. RUMIS has revitalized our District water mapping, offering an easy-to-use platform for data analysis and dissemination via mWater.”
